4 Types of Blow in inulation
- Mineral wool - Mineral wool insulation has a loose fill. It comes from recycled materials, such as blast furnace slag or a fine-grain rock. Installers can combine mineral wool with a liquid for spraying onto open walls. Mineral wool also works for blowing into wall cavities.
- Rock wool - Rock wool is similar to mineral wool for blow-in insulation. Rock wool and mineral wool are somewhat denser than cellulose insulation. That’s why you may not need as much as cellulose. It also fills into a wall cavity easier because gravity acts on it more readily due to its weight.
- Fiberglass Insulation - Although you may be familiar with fiberglass batts or rolls, this type of insulation also has a blow-in variety. Fiberglass requires special handling as the fibers are made from little bits of glass. The wispy, compact strings of materials have acceptable R-values.
- Cellulose Insulation - The best kind of blow-in insulation comes from cellulose. Cellulose insulation are made of recycled newspapers. There are no microscopic bits of dust from minerals, rocks, or glass that might get into your or your family’s lungs. It is safe to install and resists burning thanks to treatment with borate.

Insulation can become damaged over time in many ways. Moisture can seep into insulation, making it less effective. Pests can invade your home and use insulation as nesting material. If your basement or crawl space suffers from a leaky pipe, it can cause mold to grow in your insulation. When home insulation causes trouble, we can remove it.

- R-valueThe R-value measures how well insulation resists heat flow, and the higher the R-value, the better the insulation performs. The recommended R-value for most attics is R-38, which is about 10 to 14 inches of insulation. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends 13-14 inches of insulation for southern climates and 16-18 inches for northern climates.
- Material Fiberglass is a common, budget-friendly option that's also fire-resistant. Cellulose insulation is made from recycled paper and is treated for fire resistance.
